ENVIRONMENTALISM & CONSERVATION PROJECTS

To be a surfer is to be intimately connected with Mother Nature and know the ocean isn’t just water. It’s a rhythm, a heartbeat and a force that shapes everything.

His journey into activism began in 2020 with WWF’s plastic pollution campaign. Since then he’s teamed up with organizations like Save The Waves Coalition, Hope Zones Foundation, SeaTrees and Sustainable Surf to focus on ocean restoration, coastal conservation and sustainable surfboard design.

From shaping a surfboard out of discarded COVID masks for the MEO Unwanted Shapes project to speaking at the United Nations Ocean Conference, Miguel’s been using his platform to raise awareness and push for change.

In 2024, he launched the Onda Limpa Tour, bringing surfers, students and environmental groups together to clean up Portugal’s coastline. In just four stops, the crew removed over 670 kilograms of trash from the beaches.
